Answer Hints: It's challenging to write this essay. Most IELTS takers will disagree with the statement. Many of us would prefer to choose a reasonable income matched with labor and contribution rather than a smaller gap or equal income with others. However, don't forget that you are writing the IELTS essay; your reader, as well as the rater, is waiting for you to say YES to the statement.
The challenge is that even if you disagree with it, you must agree with it in writing to avoid messing up your writing test. It's a pain to be dishonest, but the question isn't open.
Agree
- Reducing the income gap can reduce the stress and anxiety of lower-income people, and the majority are happier with the policy.
- Reducing the income gap can enhance social cohesion and trust to build a happier community and society.
- Reducing the income gap can decrease social inequalities and lower the conflict between social classes. Rich people will be happier to live in a harmonious society.
Disagree
- Income and income equality aren't identical to happiness.
- Happiness is related to multiple factors, like personal choice, personal rights, and personal freedom.
- More sufficient political rights are more important than lower gap incomes.
