With cunning and deceit, Athaliah orchestrated a bloody coup, ordering the massacre of all potential rivals to the throne, including her own grandchildren. In her quest for power, she showed no mercy, sparing neither the innocent nor the guilty in her ruthless pursuit of absolute authority.
As she ascended to the throne of Judah, Athaliah became the first and only queen to rule over the kingdom in its history. She sought to eradicate the worship of Yahweh and replace it with the pagan practices of her parents, erecting altars to Baal and Asherah throughout the land.

In a twist of fate, her own daughter, Jehosheba, rescued one of Athaliah's infant grandsons from the massacre and hid him away in the temple of the Lord. Raised in secret by the high priest Jehoiada, the boy, Joash, grew to become a symbol of hope and redemption for the people of Judah.
When Joash came of age, Jehoiada orchestrated a daring plan to overthrow Athaliah and restore the rightful heir to the throne. With the support of the priests, nobles, and people of Judah, Joash was anointed as king, and Athaliah was deposed and executed for her crimes against God and humanity.
