1. 打招呼 - Greetings
以禮貌的打招呼開始：
Hi, how've you been？或是
Nice to hear from you。
對於一開頭就談正事而不說些寒喧語是很冒失的。
2. 切入主題 - Getting to the point
禮貌的打招呼或者友好的問候之後將話題拉回到正事上，可以使用這個句子
I'm just calling to ...來轉開當時話題。
I'm just calling to see if you'd like to set up a meeting.
如果你是接聽電話的，那你就需要知道對方打電話給你的目的是什麼，可以這樣說：
So what can I do for you？
3. 非冒失的打斷 - Interrupting without insult
如果某人話題不斷，然而你想要打斷，可以這樣說：
I would like to say something here, if I may... 或者是
Allow me to make a point...
你也可以只是問一句：May I interrupt you for a second?
4. 確認行動 - Confirming Action
如果您在電話上要與人確認所商議的細節，您一定要在結束之時再次重複剛剛的內容。可以使用的句子像是
Please let me confirm...
So, let me make sure I've got things straight...
重複內容來表明您已經了解了。
5. 結束電話 - Closing the call
表示一些祝福，在適當時機，可以說：
good luck on that interview 或是
hope you feel better soon。
I hope you get better。
你也許想要確認任何你已經制定的計劃：
I'll see you on Friday, then.
有些時候，對其他人說一些像是很榮幸與他談話的話。並且要記得有技巧的用這個字well可以使用在開頭的句子來表示你已準備好結束這段談話：
Well Jane, it’s been a pleasure talking to you.

情景一：
打電話的人要找的人不在，問對方是否要留言
Can I talk to David？ （我可以跟 David 講話嗎？）
He is out on his lunch break right now. Would you like to leave a message？他出去吃午飯了，你要留言嗎？
He is not available right now. Can I take a message？他不在，我可以幫你傳話嗎？
情景二：
打電話的人要找的人不在，願意接受對方的留言
Can I leave a message？我可以留個話？
Yes. Go ahead, please. 可以， 請繼續。
Of course. Hold on for just a second so I can grab a pen and paper. 當然， 稍等一下讓我拿個紙筆。
Sure, if you can excuse me for just a second. Let me find a piece of paper to write it down. 當然， 如果你可以等我一下下， 讓我找張紙寫下來。
情景三：
打電話的人找的就是你
Is David there？ （David 在嗎？）
This is he. 我就是.（注： 女的用 This is she.）
You're speaking/talking to him. 你正在跟她說話。 （注：女的用You're speaking/talking to her.）
This is David. 我就是 David.
That's me. 我就是。
情景四：
對方打錯電話
Can I speak to Chris Wang？我可以和 Chris Wang 說話嗎？
Chris Wang？ Im sorry, but theres nobody here by this name. 抱歉，這裡沒這個人。
I'm sorry. I'm afraid you've got the wrong number. 抱歉，恐怕你打錯電話了。
What number did you dial？你打幾號？
情景五：
打電話的人要找的人是別人，請對方稍等
Is Allan there？ Allan 在嗎？
Yes, he is. One moment, please. 他在。請稍等。
Hold, please. 請稍等。

情景六：
接受對方留言時聽不清楚， 希望對方重複
When he comes back, can you have him call me at (234) 5566789？他回來後， 能不能讓他打（234）5566789 這個號碼給我？
Can you repeat again, please？能不能請你再重複一次？
(Say) Again, please？再說一次好嗎？
Pardon？抱歉。 (請再說一次）

情景七：
跟對方要求跟（打電話的人）剛剛已經通過話的人再講話
Can you put David back on？ I forgot to tell him something. 你能否請David再來聽電話呢？我忘了跟他講一件事。
Sure. I'll go get him. 當然！我這就去叫他。
