IELTS Speaking Part 1: Questions And Answers
IELTS speaking test part 1 usually lasts 4-5 minutes. Its core is a simple interview to obtain basic information about the test taker, such as home, town, study, or hobby. The candidate should provide personal information in a short-talk interview. Examiners control the talk and actually have a script to follow.
The initial questions in the IELTS speaking test part 1 include:
Your full name
Your identification
Simple problems about yourself, like your hometown, your family
If you are working: what is your job, why you chose it, questions about co-workers
If you are studying: what subjects, why you chose them, if you enjoy them, and why
In speaking part 1, test-takers will also be asked questions on two or three topics, such as family, travel, food preference, and national festival.
Part 1 always starts with primary information, so it is the most natural part of the IELTS speaking test. This part is very critical for candidates who are aiming to get marks 4-5. Meanwhile, high-score hunters have to use it to impress examiners so that they have a chance to challenge difficult questions in Part 2/3.
Familiarizing yourself with common topics is the best way to prepare for IELTS speaking Part 1 because examiners use a script list to drive the test. The list updates every 3 or 4 months, so recent topics have more chances of being repeated.
IELTS speaking topics aren't random. Questions usually revolve around some common or easy topics for test takers. We collect recent topics in the IELTS Speaking Topics section to study and prepare.
